Stitch Regulators

A-1 Stitch Rite

The StitchRite stitch regulator is the stitch control system for the A-1 Longarm Quilting machine. It has four modes; constant speed mode, stitch regulation mode, cruise mode and baste mode.

In Constant Speed mode, the sewing motor runs at a set speed and you control stitch length by controlling how fast you move the machine head.

In Stitch Regulation mode, the machine controls stitch length by changing the motor speed to match how fast you are moving the machine head.

In Cruise Mode the needle doesn't completely stop.  The computer that controls the stitch regulator cannot predict what you are going to do, it can only react to what you have done.  When you are sewing a pattern that reverses directions, the computer actually sees a stop.  It then takes time to catch up with you.  That tiny amount of time often causes a long stitch coming out of the point where you changed directions.  To avoid this problem, Cruise Mode never completely stops.  That reduces the amount of time needed to get up to a speed to match you.

If you are doing ruler work, you want the needle to go slowly enough for you to have time to reposition your ruler before continuing the pattern.  If you are freehanding, you may want the needle to go much faster.  If you are doing precision freehand work, you will want the speed to be slow enough to avoid needle drag.  Whatever you are doing, you can choose the needle speed that best suits your task at hand.

In Baste Mode, you will have a one-stitch approximately every 1/2 inch.

The StitchRite also has a single stitch needle positioner. Each time you press the single stitch button, the needle will take a stitch. You can choose to stop the needle in the up position or down position.  Alternatively, you can choose to have the single stitch take a half stitch.  If the needle is up when you press the single stitch button, the needle will move to the down position.  If it is down when you press the button, the needle will move to the up position.
